JOB SUMMARY:
The Growth & Defense (G&D) Program Buyer is responsible for contributing to and executing sourcing strategy for the Growth & Defense Program to meet quality, delivery, and cost goals. The G&D Program is focusing on the acquisition of new and different types of customers. The successful candidate will be heavily involved in both strategic and tactical buying activities including new supplier identification, quoting, negotiating, purchase order placement, and fulfillment activities. They will be teamed with the Growth & Defense Program Team to meet customer requirements and company objectives. This role is a critical member of an entrepreneurial growth focused team and the successful candidate will possess and demonstrate a success oriented and can-do mindset and behaviors.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Use the competitive bid process to solicit capable sources to obtain favorable pricing and delivery.
- Review proposals, negotiate, and issue purchase agreements with supply base at best total value.
- Ensure the supply base has capability and capacity to meet and exceed key customer expectations.
- Develop and execute sourcing strategies for the program to meet cost, quality, and lead time requirements of current and future customers.
- Develop relationships with suppliers to expedite and confirm ship dates and determine arrival times, ensuring updated information is communicated across the company.
- Process quality issues, returned material, and ensure follow-through on corrective actions.
- Assess supplier’s delivery performance; make recommendations regarding ability of suppliers to meet delivery needs and schedules.
- Support business improvement projects and other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS and EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Supply Chain, Operations, or related
- 2+ years of experience in purchasing / sourcing / supply chain / planning or related
- Experience in one or more of the following areas: purchase order placement, tracking fulfillment dates, developing global supply chain strategy, or building high-performing suppliers.
- Results-oriented growth mindset with the drive to build a sourcing strategy.
- Excellent communication skills, including experience with complex negotiations.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and ensure complete follow-through
- Ability to influence vertically and horizontally inside the organization.
- Knowledge of Supply Chan / Procurement best practices.
- Experience in Continuous Improvements and/or Lean Process Development preferred.
